The Collegiate Church of St Peter in Ruthin will celebrate its 700th anniversary in 2010.

 

The Church was built by John de Grey in 1310, following the erection of Ruthin Castle by his father, Reginald de Grey, in 1282. For some time before this Ruthin had been the home of a nunnery and a priory.


From 1310 S.Peter's was a Collegiate Church served by a Prior and seven priests.

Other Event this year:

 24-26 Septenber An exhibition of quilting based on images from around St.Peter's Church

During the Heritage Weekend, 25/26 September, Ruthin Ruthin Civic Association and Denbighshire County Council will be promoting the theme of S.Peter's Church 700 Anniversary.

 

2 October at 8.00 p.m. "Voices" will present a concert including music by Mozart, Handel, Bizet, Rogers & Hammerstein, and Lloyd Webber.  Tickets £5

21 November. On the eve of S.Cecilia's Day we shall be welcoming former Choristers, Organists, Readers and Clergy to a service of Choral Evensong. Again, please make this known to anyone who may not otherwise know about it.

22 November. (Monday Evening) St Cecilia's Day Organ Recital by Peter Litman, our organist and Choirmaster.

31 December 2010/01 January 2011.
11.45 pm A Watchnight Service to conclude the 700th year.
